Tulum in February: weather, seaweed and which weeks to book in 2027

It's high season, but with quieter gaps than January. We write this from downtown Tulum, where we rent our apartment, using Weather Spark's averages and the real 2027 calendar.

February closes the cold-front (norte) season, which runs November to February on the Yucatán. One can still blow in early in the month, bringing one to three days of wind, grey skies and choppy sea; by late February they're rare. If you get one, head to a cenote: the water is 24-26 °C (75-78 °F) year-round with no waves underground. Our picks: the best cenotes near Tulum.

Is there sargassum in Tulum in February?

February sits inside the historical low-seaweed window on the Mexican Caribbean, November to March. The honest caveat: in 2026, the worst year on record in Quintana Roo, the season began in January instead of April, so there's no guarantee for February 2027. The University of South Florida's optical oceanography lab publishes a monthly outlook; the latest one we cite expected amounts to keep falling through November. Check photos and reports from the week before you fly. How to check: our sargassum guide.
